About this facility

Founded in 1897 (Meiji 30), the long-established ryokan "Jozankei Shikanoyu" now features a renovated sauna area. Its sauna room is equipped with an iki automatic loyly system (water poured on hot stones) that releases water along with lighting every 20 minutes, and offers three-tiered seating plus a "brave seat" for quiet, meditative bathing. There are two cold baths: a sub-10°C "gurushin" fed by a cascading water spout, and one of natural spring water. From the outdoor infinity chairs you can look out over the Toyohira River. Lemon water and vihta (birch whisks) are provided, reflecting a warm welcome to sauna lovers. Dinner is a well-regarded buffet of over 50 dishes showcasing Hokkaido's seasonal produce.
